Getting Cold to Look Hot
For a long time, the world’s most beautiful people depended on liposuction, plastic surgery, and other surgical procedures for keeping their curves looking just so. They were often out of sight for months at a time, recovering from surgery for:
- Muffin tops
- Love handles
- Spare tires
Then came cryolipolysis, a Frankenstein-ish sounding name for a process that is really just controlled cooling. Among some of its most vocal and visible advocates include:
Jennifer Aniston – when exercise is not enough, Anniston uses cryolipolysis to target problem areas without knives or needles.
Ali Landry – the model and former beauty queen traded in her Spanx for a fat-freezing treatment. “Two months later…I can see my waist again,” she said.
Lindsay Lohan – “My love of all things cryo just went up a notch,” the actress said after a cold-assisted fat breakdown treatment in London.
Molly Sims – the actress turned to fat freezing to re-shape her abdomen after pregnancy. “There was no downtime,” she says. “It’s perfect for busy moms.”
Target Practice: Fat Cells in the Bullseye
Cryolipolysis is a process by which fat cells are literally frozen to death. After the cooling process kills the fat cells, they come under attack by white blood cells. The white blood cells convert them to triglycerides and they are then metabolised by the liver and eliminated permanently. The big plus about fat freezing is how safe it is. The freezing temperature does a number on fat cells without affecting other cells. How can that be? “Lipids (fats) crystallise faster than other cells and at a higher temperature,” says Dr Austin. “As a result, Cooltech treatments carry no risk of tissue or nerve damage as long as the treatment is conducted by a fully trained professional.”
Safe and effective? Of course we love it! Our patients do, too.
A 2015 American Society of Dermatologic Surgery survey ranked fat freezing as the most common body sculpting treatment out there. It’s certainly popular at our clinic. More and more of our patients are getting excited about body sculpting without surgery. When we tell them that Cooltech is non-invasive, less costly than CoolSculpting, and may very well provide even better results, they’re over the moon.
The Dollars and Sense of Cooltech
Patients who come in for Cooltech sessions are given highly individualised treatment plans. Our treatments are tailored specifically to patient goals, of course. “We focus on the improvements patients wish to make on various parts of their bodies,” comments Dr Austin, “However, their unique physiology and anatomy always serves as our guide to ensure that the results we achieve are aesthetically pleasing.”
In other words, there is no such thing as an average or typical Cooltech treatment, and we do not give price quotes over the phone, beyond offering a base price estimate based on the area of the body to be sculpted. For example, the base cost for abdominal sculpting starts at $600 for one treatment. The number of treatments needed depends on the size and shape of the area and the goal of the patient. “Some Cooltech practitioners quote outrageously low prices in their advertising, only to add on additional costs at a later time,” remarks Dr Austin. “That’s certainly not how we do things.” In order to offer an accurate cost estimate, our team sees patients at complimentary, no-obligation consultations. “A consult gives us the opportunity to assess each patient in depth and develop a treatment plan (and fee estimate).”
