Austin Clinic Treatments Plus Austin Skincare

by | Sep 21, 2023

You love having great skin. That’s why you visit Austin Clinic. You want expert help so you can achieve your very best skin. After your treatment, however, you need to become an expert in after-care. Your skin needs special attention so you can enjoy the benefits of skin boosters, hydrafacials, and other treatments for as long as possible.

What does that mean for your daily regimen? How can you protect yourself from skin issues like dryness, irritation, and breakouts on skin that may be especially sensitive post-treatment? We’re glad you asked! One way to help your skin stay beautiful is with a daily nurturing regimen especially designed to keep your skin’s barrier strong and resilient.

From In-Clinic to At-Home Care: We Have You Covered

“After a laser resurfacing or chemical peel, products that contain skin-nourishing and healing ingredients are extremely helpful,” notes Dr Austin. “The right products can help patients reduce redness, soothe irritated skin, and support natural healing. That means they can enjoy the full benefits of their treatment sooner, which is always a plus.”

In addition, well-cared-for skin helps extend the longevity of the youthful, best-you-can-be appearance you achieve with your anti-ageing treatments at Austin Clinic. For example, using antioxidant-rich products after dermal filler or wrinkle-relaxing injections has been shown to maintain results.

The secret is finding products that work effectively on skin that may be hyper-sensitive due to microneedling, microdermabrasion, anti-wrinkle injections, and other anti-ageing treatments. It’s no secret products from the Austin Skin line fit the bill. You’ll learn more about some of them below …

After Microneedling – Moisturising Is a Must

“Hitting reset on your skin can be as simple as a 30-minute microneedling treatment,” say the creators of SkinPen, one of several microneedling treatments we offer, also including Vivace. “Microneedling is clinically proven to fight the appearance of neck wrinkles and reduce the appearance of acne scars,” reports Dr Austin. A device is used to make microscopic holes (channels) in the skin, which stimulates the natural healing processes. “There is no heat and no chemicals involved, so the results are ideal for all skin types,” says Dr Austin.

After treatment, moisturising is critical, but you should wait a minimum of 24 hours after microneedling. “A harsh moisturiser will likely cause inflammation and irritation,” cautions Dr Austin. It is also important to avoid heavy oils or creams that can clog newly created pores and trigger acne flare-ups. When the time is right, Dr Austin recommends Hydrate Rich, the Clinic’s anti-ageing, ultra-hydrating moisturiser. “It has the vitamins, biomimetic peptides, and antioxidants skin needs to recover and glow,” she says.

Broadband Light – Clean Newly Treated Skin with Care

Broadband light (BBL) really puts the broad in light therapy. It can be used to treat a wide range of benign skin conditions including:

  • Sun damage
  • Birthmarks
  • Unsightly veins
  • Facial skin imperfections
  • Signs of facial ageing

“BBL is a wonderful non-invasive skincare option,” says Dr Austin. “It is especially recommended for people who find laser skin resurfacing too much. Another plus with BBL is the way in which treatments can be highly customised to each patient’s needs.

When your BBL treatment is complete, it’s what you don’t do that counts. You can shower, but keep the water tepid. More importantly, choose a gentle, fragrance-free soap to get rid of dirt and grime. Avoid drying or exfoliating products that contain retinol, salicylic acid, or glycolic acid. The Austin Clinic aestheticians recommend Allmedic Non-Soap Face & Body Cleanser. Free of fragrance and other skin-upsetting ingredients, “It prevents drying and helps maintain the acid mantle of your skin,” says Dr Austin.

After Muscle-Relaxing Injections: An All-in-One Add-On

When it comes to reducing facial wrinkles, neurotoxin injections are the choice of millions. Here in Australia (ranked ninth globally for the use of anti-wrinkle injections), 41,077 people who wanted a more youthful appearance opted for these injections vs just 29,559 who chose injections of dermal filler. Austin Clinic is proud to be part of that success story.

After your injections, you’ll want to be gentle with your face and treat it with kid gloves (figuratively). The good news, however, is that you can likely use the same cleanser, exfoliant, and moisturiser you’ve come to rely on for your beauty regimen. “For patients who aren’t yet practicing a daily beauty regimen, I recommend our Austin Skin Everyday Essentials kit,” says Dr Austin. “It has everything skin needs for daytime and night-time care.” The kit is uniquely well-suited to first timers who may not have used Austin Skin products before. “Each product is offered in miniature, which gives our patients an opportunity to test-drive the strength and efficacy before committing to a full-scale purchase,” explains Dr Austin.

Perfect Match: Photodynamic and Sun Protection

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a non-invasive treatment that was originally developed to treat skin conditions ranging from acne to actinic keratosis, and rosacea. More recently, it has proven itself a useful tool to fight wrinkles, fine lines, pigmentation problems, and other visible signs of facial ageing. The process is one of the most easily tolerated by patients.

A PDT session begins with the application of a topical medicine. This medicine contains a photosensitiser called 5-ALA. When ALA is exposed to a carefully designed red/blue light protocol, the ALA is absorbed by the abnormal cells, neutralising them. The process is gentle and there is less chance of scarring when a lesion is removed with PDT. “Beyond skin health, PDT is a boon for skin,” says Dr Austin. “Studies show it also improves colour, tone, and texture across the entire face, providing superb anti-ageing benefits.”

After photodynamic light therapy, your relationship to the sun and sunscreen must change. To begin with, sunscreen alone does not have the power to protect PDT-treated skin immediately after a session. Therefore, it is essential to keep treated skin covered with a scarf and wear sunglasses. After 24 hours, and forever more, you will want to use a sunscreen daily.
