What’s your skin complaint this season? With summer on their minds, many patients at Austin Clinic want help with a wide range of complexion problems they want to clear up before swim season. In-clinic treatments overseen by medical experts provide significant benefits to skin health and beauty.

A regular skincare program at home will help those benefits last longer. Isn’t that exactly what you want? Our team has created easy, step-by-step guides to skincare … with a twist. Rather than a one-size-fits-all approach, each mini guide focuses on one of three major complexion headaches. We’ll walk you through essential daily skincare steps you need to follow to achieve your goals. The four steps in each section have been fine-tuned to help you repair and restore your skin effectively with some of our most popular skincare products.

Daily Skincare Routine to Boost Hydration

Nothing ages skin more than dryness. This simple daily regimen emphasises products that boost hydration and keep skin soft and supple with rich moisturisers:

Apply 1–2 pumps of Austin Skin Active Cleanse to wet skin. Formulated with AHAs and activated charcoal, Active Cleanse removes impurities and improves skin barrier function. Massage in and leave for 20–30 seconds. Wash off and pat dry gently. Pro tip: Do not use hot water, which can leach moisture from your skin.

Apply 8 drops of Exfol Ultra to skin. Austin Skin Exfol Ultra is a resurfacing serum with peptides and epidermal growth factors that promote clearer, smoother skin. Leave on for 20–30 minutes. Use a damp, warm cloth to remove. Pro tip: Avoid eye area.

Apply a 10-cent-coin sized amount of Aspect Hydrating Mask. This indulgent mask is formulated with ingredients that target dehydrated skin. Leave on for 20–30 minutes. Remove excess with a cotton pad. Pro tip: You can gently massage any unabsorbed mask into your skin.

Apply 1–2 pumps of Austin Skin Hydrate Rich. Vitamins, antioxidants, and peptides give this moisturiser unparalleled hydrating power. Use in the morning and at bedtime after you apply serums. Pro tip: Let our team know if you have sensitive or reactive skin as this product may not be right for you.

Daily Skincare Routine to Beat Blemishes

When you start adult-ing at age 20 or so, it is finally time to say goodbye to the adolescent acne vulgaris that plagued your teen years. Unfortunately, it’s time to say hello to adult acne which can flare up due to causes such as hormonal changes, clogged pores, skin allergies, genetics, and poor skincare. Here’s what to do:

Apply 1–2 pumps of Austin Skin Active Cleanse to wet skin. Formulated with AHAs and activated charcoal, Active Cleanse removes impurities and improves skin barrier function. Massage in and leave for 20–30 seconds. Wash off with tepid water and pat dry gently. Do not use hot water, which can leach moisture from your skin.

Avoid eye area.

Apply a 10-cent-coin sized amount of Aspect Exfoliating Clay Mask. While AHAs and BHAs work to exfoliate skin, the clay in this formulation targets excess oil and skin impurities. Leave on for 15–20 minutes and remove with Austin Skin Active Cleanse. Be gentle when removing excess clay so as not to pull delicate skin. Pat dry.

Apply 1–2 pumps of Austin Skin Hydrate Light. Essential skin health ingredients including peptides, anti-bacterial and hyaluronic acid make this oil-free moisturiser a perfect choice for people with blemishes and acne breakouts.

A word from the pros: “Some redness and tingling is to be expected,” notes Dr Austin. “If skin becomes sensitive and inflamed, you can shorten the time for Exfol and the Exfoliating Clay Mask.” Another option is to mix the Exfoliating Clay Mask with the Aspect Hydrating Mask to decrease sensitivity and add hydration.

Daily Skincare Routine to Help Redness-Prone, Sensitive Skin

A daily skincare routine can feel like a losing battle when the products you use aggravate the situation rather than resolve it. If your skin feels extra sensitive and looks redder than usual, we recommend:

Apply 1–2 pumps of Austin Skin Gentle Cleanse to wet skin and massage in. Soothing ingredients, including aloe vera and lactic acid, work to clean skin without irritating it. Wash off with tepid, rather than hot water. Pat dry thoroughly to prepare for the next step.

Apply 2 pumps of Aspect Fruit Enzyme Mask to dry skin, taking care to avoid the delicate eye area. This gel-type mask is rich in fruit enzymes that slough dead cells from the skin’s surface to reveal the radiant, healthy skin underneath. Leave the mask in place for 10–15min then gently massage in using circular motions. “You should feel some pilling underneath your fingers,” observes Dr Austin. “Don’t be alarmed. What you’re feeling are dead skin cells shedding.” Once you have massaged your face twice, remove the mask with tepid water and pat dry gently.

Apply 6–8 drops of Austin Skin Exfol taking care to avoid the eye area. Our liquid exfoliant is a gentle mix of mild AHAs and BHAs which work in tandem to accelerate skin generation. Leave for 15–20min and use a damp cotton pad to remove any extra (if skin becomes sensitive, decrease the time you leave on Exfol and speak to someone on our team).

Apply 1–2 pumps of Austin Skin Redness Relief. We created this balancing, restorative moisturiser especially for people whose sensitive skin is prone to redness. The formulation includes niacinamide, antioxidants, and anti-inflammatory peptides to quiet and sooth aggravated skin. Use it morning and night after applying facial serums.
