Dr Austin likes to say that beautiful skin is a team effort. The skin cancer services we provide at our clinic are complemented and improved by things our patients do at home. This is especially true in the case of skin cancer screening. Our thorough in-clinic exam includes a head-to-toe assessment of your skin, including your face, mouth, scalp, hands, feet, ears, toes, and fingers. A dermatascope may be used to examine moles and any spots that may need further monitoring. In some instances, a biopsy may be appropriate.
We recommend annual in-clinic skin checks for our patients, but many things can change in a year. In between visits to us, we ask that patients monitor their bodies regularly. Fast diagnosis leads to fast treatment and a better chance of a good outcome. The Cancer Council has an outstanding how-to page on self-examination that makes the process incredibly easy.
