Austin Clinic has been in the business of treating acne for nearly two decades. We’ve learned a thing or two along the way and watched remarkable improvements in the instruments and techniques we have available to us to help our patients. There is no magic pill for the treatment of acne and other skin problems, but our expert skin team will work with you to find the best possible solution for your problem skin.
Summer Acne Triggers
Acne flares as the result of the action of the pores on your face. These pores are called comedones and can create problems when they become clogged.
Closed comedo – Also known as a whitehead, this is a clogged skin follicle that chokes out air.
Open comedo – Also known as a blackhead, this is a clogged pore that is open. When it’s exposed to air, the air oxidizes the material in the clog and turns it black.
Seasons with the most extreme temperatures – summer and winter – challenge the health and beauty of your skin but in different ways. So, whether you generally enjoy clear skin or suffer from your breakouts due to genetics, stress or hormones, summer heat and humidity in Australia makes everyone a target for acne.
Pro Care for Acne and Summer Skin Woes
When you visit Austin Clinic for help with acne or summer skin problems, we want to get to know you as a person. An initial consultation will give us the opportunity to do so. We’ll ask about your family history, whether you have had skin problems before, and what you have done that has or hasn’t worked. This complete picture allows our skin experts to design the bespoke treatment protocols Austin Clinic is known for, such as:
- Oral antibiotics
- Topical antibiotics
- Hormone treatments
- Microdermabrasion
- Chemical peel treatments
- Microneedling with Vivace
- Hydrafacial
- Topical skincare products
A staff favourite in our product line, especially for clients new to adult acne, is Austin Skin’s Ban the Blemishes Kit. It contains five carefully curated products you can use at home. Each is special in its own way. Together, they combat and prevent acne while treating your skin to nourishment, moisture, and more.
Antioxidant Defence – You Can Eat to Fight Acne
A simple way to load up on these much-needed antioxidants is to load up your plate with the right foods. You’ll enjoy many of the things you already love for their taste even more when you understand how they can nourish your skin with antioxidants.
Antioxidants, vitamins and minerals that occur naturally in what we eat, protect our skin from damage due to free radicals including:
- Acne
- Skin blemishes
- Wrinkling
- Fine lines
- Loose Skin
- Dark Spots
For good eats that include good antioxidants (Vitamins A, C, E, and Zinc) for skin protection, enjoy:
Dark Leafy Greens – Leafy greens are truly wonder foods. Packed with the antioxidant Vitamin A that protects skin, they also aid digestion and support total body health. Our favourite dark leafy du jour: amaranth.
Capsicum – Sweet capsicums are loaded with one of the best antioxidants of all: Vitamin C. Chili has an even higher concentration of the antioxidant that works wonders with skin regeneration. Vitamin C is essential in the production of collagen, and it has been shown to prevent the development of acne breakouts. Our favourite source of C: sweet red capsicum.
Nuts – Nuts as well as seeds are outstanding sources of Vitamin E. Vitamin E helps increase red blood cell production, which is beneficial to skin turnover and helps keep the complexion glowing and smooth. We like our hometown favourite: macadamia nuts.
Zinc – You likely already know that zinc is found in physical sunscreens to protect skin from UV damage. Zinc also helps kill acne-causing bacteria associated with breakouts. When we think zinc, we think of: oysters and crab.
